I have a funny story.
I decided that it was time for Elinore to try peanut butter and jelly again (she has never been one for sandwiches), so I made her one for lunch. She saw me spreading peanut butter on the bread and totally lost it. I am not talking about a little whining, I mean a full out wailing fit about not wanting peanut butter. Possibly one of her biggest fits ever. What kid has a fit about having to eat pb&j?!? She more readily tastes root vegetables!!
A couple rounds of discipline ensued as I attempted to tame the fit without giving way. She ended up in her seat at the table with her pb&j in front of her continuing to wail. I explained that this was her lunch and she had to eat one bite before she could get down (standard policy in our house). Then I went back into the kitchen to make my own lunch and mostly ignore her despair. After a while it quieted down. Then I hear her quiet voice, "Mama, I like peanut butter and jam."
She proceeded to eat the entire sandwich.

I love it! Especially the fact that she actually likes the sandwiches!!
Lowri threw a tantrum the other day because we were leaving McDonalds. In slow motion she threw herself on the floor and started banging her fists and wailing.....I stood there staring at her but then couldn't control my laughter. She ended up just popping her head up and looking at me wondering what I was laughing at!!
Wow, It would be interesting to know why she found PB&J so disgusting before she tried it. I suppose we'll never know. A friend of ours who lived in Papua New Guinea made her own mayo in the village to eat on sandwiches. Home-made mayo is somewhat translucent. Anyway, one of the ladies from the village often came to eat for lunch and this friend would give her sandwiches with mayo on them. One day, our friend asked this lady what she liked and didn't like about American food. The friend paused and said, "I don't like it when you spread your snot on my sandwich." Yuck! The whole time she had been eating sandwiches she thought had been smeared with snot! What a friend.
