Decompression

We survived the holidays! We thoroughly enjoyed the holidays this year despite moments of feeling stressed and overwhelmed. We were able to spend good times with both our families and many friends. The ornaments have all been packed away for another year, and Elinore keeps looking forlornly out the window at our tree which is lying on the side of the road.

In an effort to bring ourselves a little closer to the true meaning of Christmas we tried something new this year. Our immediate family (Kevin, Elinore, and I) exchanged only homemade gifts. We are making this our new Christmas tradition. It was so much fun. We learned some valuable lessons about planning ahead and giving ourselves plenty of time to complete our projects. It also made for small, simple and rather inexpensive gifts (except for the one pictured). All of us felt a sense of pride in the things we made (even Elinore - who made a pipe cleaner and bead necklace for her Daddy). We will definitely be continuing this!!

This is a photo of the little kitchen that Kevin MADE for Elinore. He did a beautiful job, and Elinore loves it. I am so proud of my husband. He didn't even have a pattern to follow! Now we just have to get Elinore some pots and pans, and she'll be all set to make cookies!

What a cool kitchen! I'm sure Elinore will spend many hours baking and cooking. Great job Kevin! Those types of gifts are the best, I'm sure it will be treasured forever, maybe even passed down to her kids someday!

That Kev is mighty handy. He's one of those annoying people who is capable (if not outstanding) at everything he tries his hand at, isn't he? Punch him for me. ;)

All my love to the family!! xxoo, NEN
