38 weeks

I had an ultrasound today. There has been a little concern (probably mostly on my part) as to how big this baby actually is, so we decided to find out to see if we need to take any special measures. I have never had an ultrasound this far along in pregnancy, so although it was much more difficult to tell what we were looking at, I was able to see some things I have never seen before. With so much more flesh/fat, he actually looked like a little dude rather than such an alien creature.

The first picture is of his foot across the top. You can see all of his toes on the right. It looks like a big foot to me. The second picture shows you his face. If you center on his nose, then you can see it pretty well. The dark spot is his eye, and you can see his big, pouty lips! The third picture is a profile shot of his head/face.

According to their calculations he is 8#4 right now. That is good news. Still big, but if he gains the normal 1/2 lb/week, then he would only be a couple ounces more than Elinore was at my due date. That makes me feel better about getting (at least) to my due date without "intervention". We also discovered that part of why I look so big is because I have A LOT of amniotic fluid. Kevin's mom went with me and got to see a glimpse of her newest grandson, and I was glad she came. I'm just always so amazed at what this kind of technology allows us to see.

Well, pray for me that labor starts naturally before we have to induce (whenever that would be). Pray for my sweet baby boy. We'll keep you updated!

What a sweetie! We will be praying for him and you. Great news that he is on track and not super big. I love the pictures; I think the second one looks like Elinore when she was a baby.

Hi Jen--Congratulations! Thanks so much for the adorable hat! We put it on Hazel and although the hat was a little big--it was really cute. We will put a picture on our blog sometime of her in it! We will be praying for you for the end of your pregnancy and your delivery. It was wonderful to hear from you!
Love-
Anne, Jonathan & Hazel
