And They're Off

I can't seem to keep up with my kids lately. On Sunday Toby took one small step all by himself! We were all surprised and cheered for him. Good job, Tobin. The next day he took about five. By next week he'll probably be walking across the room! Elinore didn't walk until 13 months, so I think Tobin will definitely beat her. He is very determined, and you can tell that he really wants to practice. He has a lot of self-motivation and doesn't really need the coaxing that I would happily provide. I wonder if that means he will be a good worker someday.

Elinore loves chasing him around, although she has had so much energy lately that she has been getting a little rough. Even when I get us out to play, she still comes home and runs circles around me - literally. I think that means that it is time for the seasons to change. We NEED to get outside and run in the park! Hopefully soon.

On another note, Elinore has shifted into a new stage. She has always been a very sweet easy child - until she turned three. Instantly she became sassy, grumpy, pushed every limit. It took about two months of staying consistent and trying a few things before she finally pulled out of it. Towards the end I realized that part of it was my attitude. I lightened up and acted sillier with her which made a huge difference. What a humbling thing - to realize that part of your child's bad attitude is because of your own. Ouch. Anyway, the last week or so she has transistioned into utter sweetness. She is still getting disciplined for a few things, but everytime I tell her that it is time to go she says, "Okay, Mama," and comes to me to put her coat on. Then she wears this big grin and I tell her what a sweet girl she is and thank you for obeying me so well. What joy to be with her, and not to have to go through a meltdown every time we have to go home. I think it should always be like this. A sweet calm after the storm.

And Tobin's cheerful self. Catch me if you can!

Great picture of Tobin as a two-legger! I'm going to have to start teaching him how to dance.
