When we were in NY visiting my grandma Elinore was going to bed late every night. One night after dinner my Aunt Barby took her out on the front porch. I went out and found them all wrapped up in a quilt on the porch swing watching the stars. My grandma came out and we all sat together. Ever since then Elinore has wanted to watch the stars again. We've been waiting for fall since it gets dark a little earlier.
Tonight was the night. We let her stay up a little later and took a blanket out to the park across the street (my monitor reaches over there, so Tobin was sound asleep). The three of us spread out on the blanket and stared up at the stars for a while (about 45 min - she didn't want to go inside!). Elinore was beside herself. After we were done we went inside and ate apple dumplings fresh out of the oven. Elinore kept calling them "dumplins". She couldn't stop talking about how she wants to watch the stars and eat dumplins another time. I am so glad we did that tonight. It was really fun.
Once again I am reminded that we seem to take the greatest pleasure out of little things. Of all the things we could have done, Elinore had the most fun star-gazing. I need to constantly be seeking out little things to fill our days. This may become a new tradition for our family. Star-gazing and dumplins on a fall evening.

How fun! That's great a great tradition to start with the family. The "dumplins" make it better yet!
So I actually thought about it, but one I wasn't sure how far Chicago is from where you are now in Michigan. Two, we really were in Chicago only for a weekend, and I had meetings all day Saturday, which really only left Sunday free. Anyway, we looooved Chicago and would definitely like to do a longer visit sometime, and when we do, we will definitely let you know.
