Bread

I have a grocery store dilemma. The most frustrating part of grocery shopping for me is the bread aisle. I can never find what I want.

Here is what I want:
1. I want to see whole wheat flour as the first ingredient.
2. I do not want to see high fructose corn syrup in the ingredient list.
3. I do not want to pay $4 for a loaf of bread.
4. I would like to be able to get it at Meijer.

Help. Does anyone out there in cyberspace have a brand/variety of bread that you like that fits these requirements? Please let me know.

Maybe check out the loaves they make at the in-store bakery. Since they're made on site they will usually not contain preservatives as will bread that has to travel. I'm not sure how big your selection is there. I definitely feel you on the lack of truly healthful and affordable options. Tell Kev you want a bread maker!
Hope you and your gorgeous family are doing great!

If you are ever in Hudsonville, stop at Harvest Health foods... they probably have exactly what you are looking for.

okay,

so I have found Koeplinger's at Meijer in Cascade, but not at the one on Knapp, so I'm not sure if it's only sold at certain Meijers...anyhow, it's only $2.39 per loaf, and contains NO High Fructose Corn Syrup, but has only wheat flour, not whole wheat flour, as the first ingredient, but it is the 3rd ingredient.
we love it! hope that helps!!!

hi jen,

i often get koepplinger's, too. this time i bought the "lite 100% whole wheat" variety and whole grain wheat flour is the second ingredient after water. and the remainder of the ingredient list is relatively short, which i always like, and i can pronounce all of it! :) the loaves are smaller than most, but it is often on sale for 2/$4. i'm pretty sure it's also made in the midwest.
