The Things You Didn't Bargain For

Last Thursday was one of those days. You know what I mean.

Episode 1:
Elinore has swim class on Tuesdays and Thursdays this month. After class, back in the locker room, we were getting dressed (an ordeal in itself). I pulled off Elinore's bathing suit and swim diaper, set her down, and turned around to grab her clothes and diaper. When I turned back around I saw her sitting on the floor. I know that they probably clean that floor everyday, but it still grosses me out a little bit (you know, the tile floor in the locker room). Besides that, she was sitting in a puddle. Gross. Suddenly I realized that that puddle had not been there a moment before and was now rather large. Yes, you guessed it. My daughter peed on the locker room floor and was now sitting and splashing in it. I don't know whether I was more grossed out or humiliated.

Episode 2:
Same day. After Elinore's nap. I was still trying to finish up laundry (which is in the basement). I usually just let her run around the first floor while I run down and move stuff from the washer to the dryer. When I came back up, I noticed she was chewing something. "What are you eating?" I asked her. She pointed to the garbage can. My daughter ate out of the garbage. Luckily it was just a couple shriveled grapes that had been right on top and not raw chicken bits or something harmful! Gross.

Someday you can share these funny stories with Elinore. I guess boys aren't the only ones who do "gross" things. Having children does help you become somewhat shock-proof.

Jen - I agree! You are one of the best writers I know, but you've GOT to keep a chronicle of these for her! So great!!!

Also - check out dooce.com - she's an amazing, down-to-earth mom who blogs, and never ceases to make me laugh!
