Some of you may already know, but we are members of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Basically we buy a "share" of the farm and then we pick up a weekly box of produce. This is our third summer doing this and we just love it. Each summer we have gotten a little better at this change of lifestyle (which it really is). It means planning my weekly menu based on what is in our box, learning to use new and different veggies, and learning to be grateful and find uses for the couple that we don't really like (a-heh radishes). This week I got our box home and opened it up and it was just bursting with all that is green and good and fresh. I felt happy and healthy just looking at all the goodness. I couldn't resist the opportunity to snap a photo in the bright sunshine. Yum.If anyone is interested in learning more about joining a CSA, let me know! I hope everyone else is enjoying the bounty of summer!

that's so cool jen! do you find it "forces" you all to eat healthier, since you've made the investment? i'd be interested in knowing more about it (cost, etc.) ... we're going to try to start buying more fresh produce and feeding lucy less store-bought baby food. this might be a good way to do that...
Mindy,
It definitely does. There are a lot of days that we just eat a vegetarian mix-match of stuff because we need to eat it up. We get a half share which is plenty for us. A half share costs us $250/summer which evens out around $10/wk. Very affordable for fresh, local, organic produce, if you ask me! Plus, over the years we've built a relationship with our farmers. They are great! We use a farm called Eaters' Guild in Bangor, but there are lots of farms all over the country. You can look at farms near you if you go to http://www.localharvest.org/csa/
Happy Eating!
I looked into it and based on the drop-off locations and what the different farms include in their packages, I think we'd join through Eaters' Guild also. I am not sure if we should at this point in the season.. so if not, definitely next year! I can't wait - I think it's WELL worth the money!
Jen,
Hello dear friend! I had some extra time today and thought I'd get caught up on lives back home! We're in Port Macquarie at the moment...a beach town of sorts. It's been beautiful weather, but a bit chilly for the likes of me! :) We miss you! I'm updating our blog after I get caught-up, so you'll have to check it out!
