So long sweet curls!
I love Toby's hair long and curly and crazy! However, once the weather starts cooling off it all straightens out, and was hanging in his eyes. I pulled out our hair cutting kit and gave Toby his 3rd? haircut (this kid has so much hair!). He is so good, except for the clippers - Kevin has to hold his head still. I cut off two inches! Now he looks like a totally different kid - such a little boy!
Kevin is 30!
I hope he forgives me for not posting this on his actual birthday last week! We've been kind of busy. I guess this is a milestone though. Once you hit 30 there is no denying that you are an adult! When I was little, 30 felt so old; I was dreaming of being 14! Now we are beginning to realize that we are still just starting out. 30 is still so young.
Anyway, happy birthday to the best kind of man. I love you, Kevin.

Buffalo
A couple weeks ago we managed a trip out to NY. My best friend Nen has been in South Korea for the last two years teaching English. She is home for a brief time before departing on her next adventure to Australia, so I HAD to squeeze a trip in to see her. We ended up combining it with a trip to my Gram's on Long Island.
Nen and I spent some of our middle school and high school years together in Houston - long ago. We have stayed in touch for the last 12 years or so (is it more than that?) and always seem to pick right back up where we left off no matter how long has passed (or how many kids I have!). It was so good to see her, let her get to know my kids a bit more, spend some time with her family, walk around their woods, and just relax/be together. We really enjoyed not having an agenda except spending some time together.
Elinore being silly with "Crazy Aunt Nen" as she is affectionately called!
Although you can't tell from his face, Toby was ecstatic about his first tractor ride, picking up leaves on the Walton's property.
Nen and I. I miss my friend already! That black hairy thing in her lap is the mini dauschund she brought back from Korea.

Long Island
Part of our trip included a visit to my grandmother on Long Island. This is the same grandma who went parasailing and kayaking earlier this year at 96. I hope I am that adventurous at 96!! We had a great time with her, the kids loved being there, and we got to see all my cousins minus one this time. Ed and Hope, we missed you! We had quite a party for Kevin as he turned 30!
My cousin Alison had fun straightening my hair, and she got it straighter than it has ever been! I felt sort of incognito the rest of the evening! Toby thought I was a stranger for the first 15 minutes!
Toby somehow managed to get my grandma's stool upside down and then get stuck in it. We heard him calling, "help, help!" from the kitchen!
